The Companion Card program across Australia

The Companion Card program was initiated by VicNord and further developed and piloted by the Victorian State Government. The Department of Human Services has administered the Victorian Companion Card program since October 2003.

The Western Australian Companion Card program and the Tasmanian Companion Card program both operate under an Intellectual Property Licence from the Victorian State Government, and is actively securing affiliates (venues and events that accept the Companion Card).

The Victorian, Western Australian and Tasmanian Companion Card programs all have common eligibility, program conditions, security and branding; all of which affords cardholders reciprocal recognition of their Companion Cards at affiiated venues and events across state boundaries.

Applications from Victorian, Western Australian and Tasmanian residents should be directed to their respective state programs. Applications cannot be recieved from residents outside these states.

The Commonwealth anti-discrimination legislation covers the whole of Australia and most states and territories also have their own legislation to protect people with a disability from discriminatory ticketing practices.

The Victorian State Government owns the trade mark and intellectual property rights for the Companion Card. The Victorian Government is keen to support other states and territories to facilitate the rights of people with a disability by providing a licence and full support to implement a Companion Card program in their state. For more information, see the Trade Mark & Licence section of this site.
